  5. Thank you for purchasing a Shiva EtherPort card.  Enclosed are the drivers for the EtherPort II, SE/30 and SE cards.  Please read the installation instructions and warnings.

  8. BEFORE INSTALLATION
  9.  
  10. If any anti-virus software is running, such as Disinfectent, Virex or SAM, it is essential to disable it before installing the EtherPort II driver.  FAILURE TO DISABLE ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE MAY RESULT IN CORRUPTING THE SYSTEM FILE.  To avoid corrupting the system file, scan the disk with the anti-virus software and disable the software according to manufacturer’s instructions.  Once the software has been disabled, please proceed with the EtherPort II driver installation as described below.

FastPath users should be aware that the current FastPath Manager and the new Apple EtherTalk drivers are not fully compatible.  Shiva is currently working on a version of the FastPath Manager that will be full compatible with the new Apple EtherTalk drivers.  The new FastPath Manager is available from Shiva Technical Support.

If the EtherPort II driver is being installed on a Macintosh IIfx, please install AppleTalk version 56 on the system as well.  The IIfx will crash when swapping from Built-in to EtherTalk in the Network function of the Control Panel.  The system, once rebooted will work with the drivers in place, until it is necessary to swap drivers in the Network function again.  AppleTalk version 56 fixes this problem and is currently available from Apple and Apple Dealers.

  25. The Apple Installer version 3.25 does not require a separate bootable disk for installation.  The Installer will install on an open, active hard drive. To install the EtherPort II, SE/30 and SE drivers:

  27.     Close all open applications
  28.  
  29.     Insert the driver disk in the drive.
  30.  
  31.     Click on the Installer (not the Installer Script)
  32.  
  33.     A screen appears with a thank you message.  Click on OK after reading the information on the screen.

  35.     Click on the Install button.
  36.  
  37.     When the Installer is finished, there will be a prompt to reboot the machine.  Do so at this time and the drivers are installed.

  39. CUSTOMIZED INSTALLATION
  40.  
  41. If the drivers are not being installed on the active start up disk (such as partitioned disks with System 6 on one partition and System 7 on the other), the Customize option may be used.  To use the Customize feature:

  43.     Click on the Customize button.
  44.  
  45.     If necessary, click on the Switch Disk button until the proper disk name appears.
  46.  
  47.     Select either All Shiva Software for System 6.0 or All Shiva Software for 
  48.     System 7.0.
  49.  
  50.     Click on the Install button.
  51.  
  52.     When the Installer is finished, there will be a prompt to reboot the machine.  
  53.     Do so at this time and the drivers are installed.

  55. TO REMOVE SOFTWARE
  56.  
  57. While in the Customize screen, hold down the option key and the Install button toggles into a Remove button.  Highlight the software that appears in the window that needs to be removed and click on Remove.

  59. TO INSTALL FROM AN ELECTRONIC PACKAGE
  60.  
  61. If this was received electronically and not on a disk, please follow these 
  62. Installation instructions.
  63.  
  64.     Initialize a floppy disk and name it: EP II,SE/30,SE Installer The EtherPort installer script will not run unless it is on a disk with this name. All the files and folders from this package must be placed on the root level of the "EP II,SE/30,SE Installer" disk.

  66.     Decompress the files and folders from the “EP II, SE/30, SE Installer.CPT” file and copy them on to the root level “EP II,SE/30,SE Installer” disk. Please note that it is not necessary to place Macintosh system software on the “EP II,SE/30,SE Installer” disk.

  68.     Close all open applications and disable any anti-virus software, according to Manufacturer’s instructions, before installing the EtherPort II installers.

  70.     A screen appears with a thank you message.  Click on OK after reading the 
  71.     information on the screen.

  73.     Click on the Install button.

  75.     When the Installer is finished, there will be a prompt to reboot the machine.  
  76.     Do so at this time and the drivers are installed.

  78.     If AppleTalk Phase 2 is running with extended addressing active, the default zone may have to be reselected after completing the installation.

  80. TO INSTALL ON APPLESHARE
  81.  
  82. To install the EtherPort II drivers on an AppleShare server:

  84.     Install the EtherPort drivers according to the Installation Instructions above to a clean hard drive.
  85.  
  86.     Enter the Control Panel and select the Network function.
  87.  
  88.     Swap from Built-in to EtherTalk.
  89.  
  90.     Install the AppleShare File Server software.
  91.  
  92.     Install the EtherPort II drivers again, this time to the server folder of the 
  93.     Server drive.
  94.  
  95.     Enter the Control Panel and select the Network function.
  96.  
  97.     Swap from Built-in to EtherTalk.
  98.  
  99.     Reboot the server and the drivers should be installed.

  102. UPGRADE INFORMATION
  103.  
  104. ETHERPORT BOARDS WITH THE INTEL CHIP SET
  105.  
  106. The driver which comes with this board is not designed for EtherPort II boards with the Intel controller chip. If the older, full length EtherPort IIi card is installed, please use the separate EPIIi package to install the driver, available on the Shiva bulletin board.  This System 7 compatible driver will allow the NuBus Mac to run under System 7; however, virtual memory and 32 bit cleanliness are not supported with this driver.

Three options exist for users of the EtherPort IIi Intel Board.  The first option is a software upgrade.  The software for the EtherPort IIi Board is available for free from the Shiva bulletin board.  This software is System 7 compatible; however, it is not compatible with Virtual Memory nor is it 32 bit clean.

To upgrade the hardware, call Shiva Technical Support for a Return Authorization number and send the board, along with a check, money order or purchase order for $150 to: Shiva, 56 Rogers Street, Cambridge, MA  02141.  Boards returned to Shiva without a Return Authorization number can not be accepted.Shiva will send an EtherPort IIn card as replacement for the EtherPort IIi card.  This applies to all EtherPort IIi cards, even those previous to revision 2323.

If an upgrade is not desired, but the board is previous to revision 2323, Shiva can repair the board to eliminate the known problem of zones disappearing on long length cables.  Call Shiva Technical Support for a Return Authorization number and send the board with a check, money order or purchase order for $100 to Shiva, 56 Rogers Street, Cambridge, MA  02141.  The board will be repaired and will work under System 7 software; however, it will not be 32 bit clean nor will it be compatible with Virtual Memory.
